"We had a chance to catch up with busy student, Marie Orta, on her way to becoming a Certified Wedding and Event Planner. Ms. Orta is a student in both Wedding and Event Planning and Party Planning 101.Maria's project one (1) was to design an event and bring her "A Game" to the design and event experience. We enjoyed her project and we think you'll enjoy it too!"
What 3 things would you like to share about yourself?
1. I am from France and have been living in the United States for 6 years.
2. I have been proudly married to a US Navy Sailor for 4 years but never had a wedding!
3. I love reading, cooking, interior design and wedding planning!!!
Why did you enroll in the Certified Wedding and Event Planning and Design Programs?
I first got to encounter a lady wedding planner when my cousin was planning his wedding years ago and I loved what she was doing for them. Even though I had other career plans at the time, it's always been in the back of my mind. When I moved to the United states and realized that the profession was much more popular than in France I saw a good opportunity. I knew that this was what I really wanted to do.
What was the inspiration for this project?
For this project, regarding the couple I simply found my inspiration in my marriage and my own story.Regarding the wedding design, my inspiration was what I would like my own wedding to be like, including traditional and cultural details that would remind me of my country.
What did you find to be the most challenging?
The most challenging was to manage the budget, just because I'm not too good with numbers so I had to work harder on that part.
What was your favorite part?
I am a perfectionist so my favorite part was definitely to put everything together on the website and create a story.I loved it so much and spent many many hours just adding details, changing words, switching things, and just trying to make the whole thing look like I was telling a story.
What was the biggest take-away you learned?
Overall, I learned so much about the wedding industry through the program. I found every detail about the wedding planning process very interesting and useful.I feel like I now have all the tools to get started and be successful in what I do.
What advice do you have for anyone planning to start a career in wedding and event planning?
My advice would be to be passionate, have an open mind and take risks.
