Student Spotlight – Jessica Reagan

We had a chance to catch up with busy student, Jessica Reagan, on her way to becoming a Certified Wedding and Event Planner. Ms. Reagan is a student in both Wedding and Event Planning and Party Planning 101.
Jessica’s project one (1) was to design an event and bring her “A Game” to the design and event experience. We enjoyed her project and we think you’ll enjoy it too!
What 3 things would you like to share about yourself?
1. I am a military spouse.
2. I have 2 huskies, they are sisters and are my children.
3. I am from Tennessee, but currently live in Denver, Colorado.
Why did you enroll in the Certified Wedding and Event Planning and Design Programs?
As a military spouse, you move – A LOT!! The only thing I have found that is always consistent in this constantly changing life style, is parties! People are always going to have parties, weddings, get-togethers, etc., so being an event/wedding planner, is a secure job for me! But also something I LOVE and passionate about. I simply LOVE the look on people’s faces when you plan the perfect event for them!
What was the inspiration for this project?
My best friend Christy from back home in Tennessee recently got engaged. I was thinking about the type of wedding she will have, and then I was also thinking about my story. Born and raised in TN like Christy, but loving my current home in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. This led me come up with the idea for a fall wedding in the mountains of CO, full of the modern details of Denver, but paying homage to the TN roots (the country accents, pumpkins and sunflowers, etc.). A wedding for a couple from TN whose hearts are still there, but who also love their new home in Colorado.
Christy and her fiance are very religious, so in order to incorporate that into an outdoor, mountain wedding, I thought the guest sitting in old church pews, and the bride entering through old chapel doors, would pay homage to that detail as well. It’s a wedding that truly incorporates all things TN and CO, and shows respect to the couple’s beliefs. I only hope my friend Christy actually has a wedding this great! 😉
What did you find to be the most challenging?
I think getting all the ideas and visions out of my head and onto WIX, while making sense to others was the hardest part! It’s hard to create an event from your imagination in a way that others will grasp and appreciate as much as you do!
What was your favorite part?
Seeing the finished product was definitely the best! It all came together, and I am proud of how it turned out! It would be an AMAZING wedding!
What was the biggest take-away you learned?
I think the biggest thing I learned through this project, is that I have to be able to communicate my vision effectively! It’s one thing to have ideas in your head, and a complete other thing to communicate that to an audience or potential client. Being able to put my vision into a visual package for someone else to view it and think “Yes, this is what I want for my big day”, is the end goal.
Through this project, I learned that there are so many steps that need to be taken in order to have a finished product. It’s not an easy task, and sometimes you get tired of all the work, but the end product is so worth it! If I had cut corners and skipped steps to just get to the end, my project wouldn’t have been as good! And in the future, I need to treat all my event this way too, so that my clients are just as pleased as I was at the end of this project.
What advice do you have for anyone planning to start a career in wedding and event planning?
Take this course! It’s been so helpful to me so far! Also, really take the time to make each event personal to the client. Finding out about their roots, what matters to them most… those things will really help you create an event that will have everyone talking!
