Student Spotlight – Ashley Wolf

We had a chance to catch up with busy student, Ashley Wolf, on her way to becoming a Certified Wedding and Event Planner. Ms. Wolf is a student in both Wedding and Event Planning and Party Planning 101.

Ashley’s project two (2) was to sell her company’s products and services to a new client. We enjoyed her project and we think you’ll enjoy it too!

What 3 things would you like to share about yourself?

1. I started my University experience in broadcast journalism which gave me the confidence to speak in public and meet new people.

2. I moved to Florida at nineteen to become a full time nanny, which is what I do now while taking this course.

3. I want to use to eventually take this job into a heavy charity gala field and plan fundraising events for homeless and injured pups.

Why did you enroll in the Certified Wedding and Event Planning and Design Programs?

While living in Miami, I took an interior design internship as that is what I thought I wanted my career to be. But after putting my love for design and interiors, with my passion for event planning together, I found my future dream job and I can’t wait to make it come true!

What was the inspiration for this project?

I took the expected PDF style to a new level by making a real life working model of what my soon to be website and business model will look like. I used handouts that I have in my “new client binder” that I’ve started and added them into helpful categories for a future bride to utilize.

What did you find to be the most challenging?

The most challenging for me was creating a contract. I researched lots of service contracts online and took pieces of a few to give me an idea on how to construct one. I will most likely seek professional help when creating a working contract.

What was your favorite part?

My favorite part was honestly creating the website itself. I like to think of myself very tech savvy, so creating pages with interactive links, and drop down menus that actually take you to the right page with the right background design is fun for me. I love to be creative with color schemes and fonts as well.

What was the biggest take-away you learned?

To be very honest, when I was reading the chapters leading up to this project, I got extremely intimidated and stopped working on the course for several weeks. I thought that this was it, I was finding out the hard way that running my own business isn’t for me. I had many emails with my advisers and coordinators walking me through study strategies and tips to get through tough chapters.

Once it was time for the project I think I reread chapters 4 & 7 about ten times to get it right. I felt comfortable afterwards and I think I made a beautiful project because of it. My biggest takeaway is just because something proves to be difficult, don’t walk away from it, keep at it. I could have given up my dream, but it was worth it to stay.

What advice do you have for anyone planning to start a career in wedding and event planning?

Running your own business seems daunting, especially if you have no background in business like me. But when the time comes there are many resources and professionals that can help with the legal and business side. Just focus on your skill as a designer and sharpen that tool, that’s what’s really going to make you succeed in the end.
