Tiffany Burke, is a CWEP, Certified Wedding and Event Planner. Ms. Burke graduated in 2017 and she believes knowledge, passion, and problem-solving are the most important characteristics of a professional wedding and event planner.

When we asked Tiffany why she wanted to become a wedding planner, she told us, “it was Just something I wanted to do when I was a little girl. I had big ideas and dreams about becoming a business owner, fashion designer, and wedding planner. I love setting up and decorating things. I Love flowers, and dealing and working with fabric and design.”

Tiffany’s project two (2) was to sell her company’s products and services to a new client. We enjoyed her project and we think you’ll enjoy it too!

What did you find to be the most challenging?

They most challenge part about this project I believe was creating my contract and business plan. I had to really take advantage of the LWPI library resources and outside resources to come up with a decent contract for my business. I think it’s important to look at the different clauses one should be putting in their contracts and to listen to the podcast and experts in the industry in what they recommend is important when creating a contract/business plan.

I really spent the majority of my time focusing in those two areas and ensuring that my contract/business plan really reflect what my business stands for and the kind of image I want for my business reflect.

What was your favorite part?

Actually, I had a few such as creating my different packages, my logo/name, bridal questionnaire, making the groom feel special ideas, and budget friendly tips. This is where I really got to express myself and throw in some of my own ideas I know I would personally like to provide as a service to my actual clients in the future. I really had a lot of fun putting them together.

What was the biggest take-away you learned?

The biggest take-away I learned was the depth of research and time it took to create my overall business package. This definitely gave me a wakeup call and really helped me to think about how I should construct and build my business package from a legal standpoint. This definitely got me excited and motivated in achieving my dream. The guidelines and business tactics I feel will help me to make the right decisions when creating my own brand in the future.

What advice do you have for anyone planning to start a career in wedding and event planning?

My advice for any new event planner would definitely be to look at who all of your vendors are and gather up all of their business information and network with them. I recommend creating a vendor list and listing what is their style/niche and organize that accordingly. I also encourage one to really sit and take the time to establish what kind of business you want. Who do you want working for you? What kind of service will you provide? How are you going to attract your target market and get them to hire you?

These are some of the questions I kept constantly telling myself in order to create my business. This really helped me to establish what kind of planner I really wanted to be and you can clearly see that throughout my projects and work. Luxury, elegant, stylish, unique, extravagant just to name a few. Also don’t be afraid to look at what other planners are doing and advertising. Study what all they are doing and see if you can do it better.
