We had a chance to catch up with busy student, Ebony Flowers, on her way to becoming a Signature Wedding and Event Designer.

Ebony’s final project was to design a beautiful wedding event experience. We enjoyed her project and we think you’ll enjoy it too!

What 3 things would you like to share about yourself?

1. Growing up in NYC exposed me to various cultures, resulting in a passion for extensive travel.

2. My favorite place to be is anywhere that is warm and has blue/turquoise water with powdery white sand.

3. I love to design home interiors for fun.

Why did you enroll in the Certified Wedding and Event Planning and Design Programs?

The desire specifically to design started when I was an adolescent actually. I had a natural knack for organizing, but as I got older the desire to decorate ANYTHING and EVERYTHING was there. I found myself constantly redesigning my bedroom and living spaces.

I would also try to solicit funds from relatives for the sole purpose of redesigning their homes or taking control of their social functions just so that I can be in charge of décor. When you combine that design itch with my love of hosting social functions, it only made sense.

What was the inspiration for this project?

My inspiration for The Royal Peacock stems strictly from the bird’s history and cultures that it influences. Stemming from Asian cultures, which you can see influenced in my concept, peacocks represent royalty, awakening, and is a symbol of sheer beauty. I felt that the mesmerizing colors and beauty found on their feathers needed to be represented well.

What did you find to be the most challenging?

I believe the most challenging factor in creating my concepts was removing myself and strictly designing for a client’s requests. While their specific style may not me the same as mine, I have to ensure that I am meeting their needs and wishes.

What was your favorite part?

I actually have two favorite parts, and they are researching and creating tablescapes. I love to research items of inspiration because it’s extremely insightful and honestly gets my juices flowing for creating a concept.

I also love creating tablescapes because I feel it’s the one element that guest will spend the most time at other than the dance floor. It’s a sure way to get the “WOW” factor from guest with every intricate detail and as each table comes together to add to a room’s ambiance.

What was the biggest take-away you learned?

This learning experienced allowed me to realize that tying in emotions to all event elements is a sure way to create memories that last a lifetime.

The biggest takeaway for me in this entire experience is to ensure that my business logistics are just as tight as my design skills and to ensure that I am always organized.

What advice do you have for anyone planning to start a career in wedding and event planning?

The best piece of advice I can give to any planner/designer is to be fully committed and don’t be afraid to step out of the box. The crazier the idea sounds to a person that isn’t the visionary the better it probably be when it is executed.
