We had a chance to catch up with busy student, Jennifer Chung, on her way to becoming a Certified Wedding and Event Planner. Ms. Chung is a student in Wedding and Event Planning.
Jennifer’s project two (2) was to sell her company’s products and services to a new client. We enjoyed her project and we think you’ll enjoy it too!
What did you find to be the most challenging?
Getting the courage and confidence to actually start my own business was the most challenging experience to overcome. Fear and doubts continuously crossed my mind and I always thought about the “what if” or the possibility of failure. However, I came to realize that this was only holding me back and I wouldn’t have known my capabilities if I never tried.
What was your favorite part?
My favorite part was coming up with the name of my business and actually starting to build my brand. There are so many details involved in how to present, market, and run a small business, so the best part about it was that it’s all up to me!
Putting my own flavor and likes to show others what I can offer and what my style is was so much fun because it all came so naturally.
What was the biggest take-away you learned?
The greatest insight I gained was to always keep up with the trend, stay active on the web, and do my research. There is never a down time for event planners and that is totally true. Since there is so much involved in event planning, an event planner has so much to learn and research.
We must be knowledgeable and always stay on top of the current trends from various styles of decorations to browsing different software to attending conferences. To keep our professional status, we must show it through our various channels.
What advice do you have for anyone planning to start a career in wedding and event planning?
Don’t be afraid and always be prepared! We never know what can happen until we gain our courage and actually try it!
However, don’t rush into just opening your event planning business. Do your research, draft a business plan, and always be prepared for what’s next. Your knowledge and the way you utilize your time wisely will show immensely in the outcome of your brand.
