Student Spotlight – Rachel Umile

We had a chance to catch up with busy student, Rachel Umile, on her way to becoming a Certified Wedding and Event Planner. Ms. Umile is a student in Wedding and Event Planning.

Rachel’s project three (3) was to prepare a project plan for her company’s grand opening event. We enjoyed her project and we think you’ll enjoy it too!

What was the inspiration for this project?

The idea of having a fall festival like the ones I used to go to when I was younger as my grand opening was the inspiration for this project. I really wanted to incorporate the fall season somehow into the project which is how I came up with the theme for my grand opening.

What did you find to be the most challenging?

The most challenging part of this project in my opinion was the press release.

What was your favorite part?

My favorite part was definitely creating the A8 sections on my website. Just being able to come up with all of them and post pictures relating to each section really made my project come together as well as made the idea of my grand opening seem real.

What was the biggest take-away you learned?

The biggest take away I learned from this project was to have fun with planning and creating your event but to make sure you pay attention to the details. I honestly enjoyed creating this project but their were a few times I went back and switched things up so that the project would be perfect in my eyes.

What advice do you have for anyone planning to start a career in wedding and event planning?

For anyone planning or designing an event, my advice for you is to make sure you listen to your client’s wishes for their event, pay close attention to the details of the wedding to make sure they match the clients wishes, and just have fun with it. Planning can be tough but as long as you are able to have fun with it, you will truly be able to say that you love your job.
