Student Spotlight – Kylie Pugh

We had a chance to catch up with busy student, Kylie Pugh, on her way to becoming a Certified Wedding and Event Planner. Ms. Pugh is a student in Wedding and Event Planning.
Kylie’s project three (3) was to prepare a project plan for her company’s grand opening event. We enjoyed her project and we think you’ll enjoy it too!
What was the inspiration for this project?
I have wanted to be a Wedding Planner since I was a freshman in High School. This year I was really able to make that dream a reality.
My inspiration for this project was just seeing my dream come together. To be able to actually sit and write down my business model and see that it could become a viable business was just amazing.
What did you find to be the most challenging?
The thing I found to be the most challenging was setting my prices. I live in an area where there are no other event or wedding planners. So there was really no guideline to base my prices by.
Of course, they are not set in stone yet and will probably be adjusted before I launch my business. But I am glad I have a jumping off point to work from.
What was your favorite part?
My favorite part was creating the overall image of my brand. Coming up with the color scheme and package names was really fun. I am a huge Beatles fan so all elements of my business have a slight Beatles reference.
What was the biggest take-away you learned?
The biggest thing I took away from this project was to not overthink it: to understand that you do not have to re-invent the wheel to have a successful business.
Sometimes I found myself so consumed with what font, or color, or wording I was going to use – it made things so much harder. Once I took a step back and just started jotting down ideas and creating, then it really all came together.
What advice do you have for anyone planning to start a career in wedding and event planning?
I will be implementing my grand opening next year. I am taking this year to get certified and gain experience. I plan on launching my business next year.
