We had a chance to catch up with busy student, Ayesha Fardell, on her way to becoming a Certified Wedding and Event Planner. Ms. Fardell is a student in Wedding and Event Planning.

Ayesha’s project three (3) was to prepare a project plan for her company’s grand opening event.

What was the inspiration for this project?

I was recently in Denmark and was struck by their concept of Hygge, which essentially mean coziness. This concept represents spending time with loved ones, drinking wine and laughing over candle lit dinners and feeling comfort and happiness.

I wanted to combined the warmth of Hygge with the fiery passion of the Spanish culture, I country where I lived for some time and admired the culture. To me, these two ideas represent the perfect marriage.

What did you find to be the most challenging?

Telling the story was the most challenging part of the project, I spent a lot of time mapping out the story of the individuals in the couples, the couple as a unit, their friends and family, and then each of the A8.

I really wanted to incorporate cultural and family traditions, as well as create an event that ignited all the sense. It took a lot of time and patience to relay that into the project.

What was your favorite part?

While telling the story was the biggest challenge, it was also my favorite part. I really loved incorporating personal touched into the A8 and creating an event that I felt really spoke to this couple.

I also love bringing together the design aspects for the A8, like Attire, Accessories and Atmosphere, it was so much fun creating the mood.

What was the biggest take-away you learned?

The A8 is such a crucial and helpful tool when planning an event, I wish I had known about it before! I really helps organize ideas, create a mood, and show you where details are missing.

What advice do you have for anyone planning to start a career in wedding and event planning?

Really listen to what the couple wants and create that for them, without over extending yourself and promising too much.
